Our first immersion in Melbourne was so popular that we're going back in September! We'll seize the opportunity to view the magnificent French impressionnism exhibition at NGV to spend 4 fabulous days immersed in French with students of similar level and teachers from French à la Carte.

The programme includes a mix of small group lessons, activities offered by native-French professionals and meals in delicious French restaurants. It’s the perfect opportunity to practice your French “for real”, with friends, while having fun at the same time!

We have partnered with Coco and Anissa from Madame Voyage (more info on their Facebook & Instagram pages) to tailor a unique French immersion in the heart of Melbourne.

Madame Voyage specializes in boutique tours & retreats which are meticulously crafted to provide immersive experiences that delve into the essence of French culture, cuisine, language, and adventure.

Classes, Levels & Activities

Groups & Levels

Each class will be taught by one or two FALC teacher(s) -- depending on group size -- on a variety of activities and topics, typically related to the activity planned on the same day. The main goal is to improve comprehension and conversational French, to immerse yourself in the language and « force » yourself to use as much French as possible throughout the day. All in a pleasant atmosphere, of course!

The minimum level required to attend this immersion is Intermediate, i.e. B1.1 and above.
Participants are expected to speak French at all times throughout the immersion. English is not allowed!

If you are not sure of your level, please contact us at info@frenchalacarte.com.au.

French Classes

Each day French à la Carte teachers teach a French lesson tailored to the participants level, focusing on improving conversational French and fluency in speaking and comprehension. Each lesson may include some grammar, aural comprehension, writing and of course speaking. Participants are split into small groups to work in collaborative tasks together. Topics can vary, but are always connected to an aspect of French culture.

French Impressionism Exhibition - National Gallery of Victoria

French Impressionism is a major exhibition developed by the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, in partnership with the National Gallery of Victoria. The exhibition charts the trajectory of Impressionism and Post-Impressionism in late nineteenth-century France, highlighting the renowned avant-garde artists at the centre of this period of radical experimentation, who boldly rejected the artistic conventions of their time.

Drawn from MFA Boston’s rich collection of Impressionist masterworks, French Impressionism presents more than 100 paintings by key figures including Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Edgar Degas, Camille Pissarro, Édouard Manet, Mary Cassatt, Berthe Morisot, Paul Signac and Alfred Sisley. Audiences will have the opportunity to experience the hallmarks of Impressionism: distinctive brushwork, vivid use of colour, innovative viewpoints, and depictions of subjects and places dear to the artists.

Through ten thematic sections, French Impressionism will evoke the artistic energy and intellectual dynamism of the period by placing emphasis on the thoughts and observations of the artists themselves. Their words, as recorded in letters, journals and articles, will reveal the mutual admiration and personal connections that united the practitioners at the centre of this avant-garde movement.

Meals

All lunches during the immersion are at your own expense, giving you the flexibility to explore Melbourne’s diverse culinary scene at your own pace.

However, all dinners are included in the program, offering carefully selected dining experiences:

On the first night, you'll enjoy a two-course French dinner in South Yarra, where drinks can be purchased separately.

The second evening, you'll dine at Handpicked Wines Cellar Door, a French wine bar offering a two course French dinner, curated wine and dining experience, with drinks available for purchase.

Finally, on the third night you'll take part in a hands-on French cooking class, where you'll prepare a gourmet three-course meal (entrée, main, and dessert) under the guidance of a French chef. This experience is BYO, so feel free to bring your favorite bottle of wine to complement your meal.
